Demand for an airport hotel in The Gambia?

The Woodpecker Resort at Gambia's only airport Banjul shows an unique success story since 2014

The Gambia River is a paradise for bird lovers and other wildlife enthusiasts...

Since its founding in 2014, the Woodpecker Resort has been a resounding success story, thanks to its 24/7 airport drop-off and pick-up service. The greatest assets of mainland Africa's smallest country are its miles of golden Atlantic beaches, spectacular river landscapes, and unique birdlife. Thanks to relatively short flight times and no time difference, Gambian adventurers usually arrive without jet lag.

Hallahein River: Gambia has a young population who love taking photos of themselves and the beautiful landscape

The people are friendly and open. As a European, it's advisable to approach them with a smile; you'll very likely get it back two or three times over!

Most Gambians speak English, and some even speak a little German. It's an exciting travel destination, and I think a visit could be a win-win situation for both the people and the tourists.

Is Gambia the perfect destination for sun worshippers in the winter of 2026/27?

While Europe freezes in winter, Gambia pampers its guests in the 2026/27 season with reliable warmth, around nine hours of sunshine daily, and daytime temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius. From mid-October until the end of June, there will be no more rain. A trip to Africa's smallest country can offer entirely new perspectives, especially for water sports enthusiasts, motorcyclists, or mountain bikers…

Whether it's relaxing on palm-fringed bays, taking boat trips on the Gambia River, or experiencing the proverbial hospitality of the "Smiling Coast" – Gambia combines exotic summer magic with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. An ideal escape from the winter blues!

How can you travel to Africa cheaply and comfortably?

Royal Air Maroc flies daily from Casablanca to Banjul, always arriving at 1:30 in the morning...

The best way to travel from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH region) to Banjul International Airport in Gambia is by plane. Connections usually involve a short stopover in Brussels with Brussels Airlines, Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc, or Lisbon with TAP Air Portugal; seasonal direct charter flights are also available, for example from TUI Fly.

Tui Fly often flights from Brussels to Banjul in the morning and back again in the early afternoon..

And Vueling also offers cheaper flight prices; on some dates, you can get a round trip for under €350… Route example: DUS-BCN-BJL and return.

The prices for a round-trip flight average between about four hundred and seven hundred euros, depending on the season and time of booking... More expensive is Brussels Airlines and Turkish Airlines.

At any time, every day

Many flights arrive in Banjul, the capital of The Gambia, uncomfortably late or very early in the morning.

That’s why many travelers—even in Africa’s smallest country—are glad that the successful and quite affordable Woodpecker Resort has opened near the airport.
