The area between Fez and Ifrane in Morocco is particularly notable for its geographical and climatic diversity and its cultural and natural attractions. There are several special features of this area worth mentioning…

  • Landscape diversity: The region offers a varied landscape, ranging from the green, fertile plains around Fez to the forested mountains and plateaus of the Middle Atlas. Ifrane is located at an altitude of about 1,665 metres and is surrounded by dense forests, mainly cedar forests.
  • Ifrane – ‘The Switzerland of Morocco’: Ifrane is known for its European-style architecture, cool climate and cleanliness. Because of its appearance and climate, it is often referred to as ‘the Switzerland of Morocco’. In winter, there is even snow here, making the area a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts.
  • Ifrane National Park: Ifrane National Park is an important part of this area. It is known for its cedar forests, where the famous Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) grows. The park is also home to many wild animals, including Barbary macaques, wild boars and various bird species.

Today's Fez is the third largest city in the Kingdom of Morocco and has a population of around 1.5 million. The landscape of the metropolis is quite hilly in places, with the surrounding mountains reaching 1600 metres and above. In winter, you can go skiing in Ifrane. Wild boars and various bird species.

Let's take a look at Ifrane, also known as ‘Little Switzerland’. This picturesque town is located at an altitude of around 1,665 metres and offers a cooler climate in summer, as well as European-style architecture. The region is known for its cedar forests, picturesque villages and the famous Michlifen ski resort.

Between Fez and Ifrane, you can see agricultural land and the first forests.
